Mysterious Dinosaur - Therizinosaurs Egg and Embryo
This is the first time that the fossil egg and embryo of
Therizinosaurs have been exhibited in Japan.
There were 2 cases at the both side, but it was difficult to take pictures by
the insect glasses equipped above!
Therizinosaurs are bipedal dinosaurs which are medium-sized, and seem to be plant-eaters.
The hands equip with very large and sharp claws which reached to more than 60cm.
These eggs have been discoverd in the Nanchao Formation (Upper Cretaceous; about 75-85 nillion years ago)
of China.

The eggs are oval and 70mm in shorter diameter, 90mm in longer diameter. The length of the claw is about 10mm.
The more dense bones of late-stage embryos are uaually spread over the egg.

The specimen has been preparated for more than 2 years.
Tiny teeth was found in the lower jaw.
There are well preserved soft-tissues, claws and tooth.
The red portion shows the iron of bone surface which was oxidized.

Thickness of egg shell is 1.5 mm and the structure of it seems to be near to theropods.
