NEW TRACKWAY IN YUSURI

LAST UPDATE:'97.5.24

At 7:00 a.m. we left a hotel and went to Yusuri of southeast in Korea by the expressway.

We took breakfast at a drive-in at 8 o'clock on the way to Yusuri(left). To my surprise, in the morning many persons were eating a dish of kimuchi.
There was a mysterious truck which loaded the dozens of red basin at a parking lot. Before long it became clear that it was a street sale of strawberries.

At half past 10 o'clock, we arrived at Yusuri. It took more than 3 hours since we departed .
And then we went down to the river. Construction began in the river, and this place may be repaired someday.
We looked for fossils in a day of the spring that was clear and mild.

Mr. Hamuro was looking for fossils of shellfish. There were many shells, however I don't know he found fossils.

Tour guide (I forgot her name. She speaks fluent Japanese) was surprised at our member, who measured trackway and took photographs and copied them to transparence sheet in detail. It is natural what we were considered as "expert".

Our driver got tired soon and he was a nap in the car. On the other hand, tour guide considered that it was hardly possible to guide and began to pick up mugwort. "When boiled and mixed with kimuchi, it was delicious", she told me next morning.

The right picture shows trackway of a dinosaur. I lay on a river.

The step of a footprint was about 140cm.
At first I thought there were 12 steps, but other two steps in front of the first step were found. So there were 14 steps after all.

And there were 9 steps of trackway on this right side. Dinosaurs might walk alongside. Footprint itself was a little small, but I forgot to measure it.

Characteristics of this trackway are as follows.

1.The depth of a footprint was deep, and circumference of it was broken radialy.

2.Each footprint was round and was indistinct.

It seemed to be the footprints of Sebayashi in Gunma of Japan. Some footprints had a little clear print of finger. The soft ground shrank after having stepped on and the footprint seemed to become smaller and indistinct. The length of crack was 1m or more. It wasn't the crack which was made when stepped but was made by the drought of the ground after it was stepped, which is the Hamuro's theory.

3.Footprints continued toward same direction.
Grass grew in the hollow of a footprint. When looked for the place where grass grew, there were much trackways.

4.It was "bipedal" and there was no print of hands.
And the length was about 130 cm - 140 cm.

This place has not been reported yet. Literature after detailed investigation is expected.

Left shows the radial crack around the footprint. Scale is 10 cm.

There was many footprints and it was easy to find for a beginner.

  "I also find it!"

Left picture shows relatively clear footpint.
And right one shows white line to make it clear.

Left footprint was considered to be that of large-sized sauropod which is different from the dinosaur mentioned above. Rock of circumference was carried away, and footprint itself was left.

We left here at half past 12, and went to Samchonpo in order to take a lunch.
I yearned for cold beer! Anyway left is the crown of korean beer.
